so i haven't monoprinted in ages, these were done a few months back in our first module. i drew from live plants to produce some lovely designs. i forgot how much i like the grittyness of monoprinting and the dirty smudges it leaves on the page. i find it really effective and hopefully i can use it again soon.

heat transfer ink
i made a design using heat transfer inks. i painted the inks on a piece of paper in stripes which i then cut into the shapes i needed to make a flower. i placed it in the heat press and it revealed this wonderful design. the colours aren't as vibrant as i would have hoped but i am quite happy with it. i am sure more experimenting with heat transfer inks will produce the colours i need in the future.
using promarkers
this was my first time using the new promarkers i got and i really enjoyed using them; they are essentially like paint but in a pen. they are so easy to blend and come in such vibrant colours. i think the design would be more effective if a pencil was used over the top, but i quite like the harshness of the promarker.

drawings
i used this drawing in many of my designs back in september because it worked nicely with lots of different colour combinations and worked with other designs i had. i used water colours and fine liners to produce this design and i am glad i included it in a few of my designs.
this is the biggest drawing i produced. its an a3 pencil observational drawing of a rose plant that i had and even though i love the drawing and it took me a very long time to complete i didn't use it in any of my designs which i am sad about but i just couldn't imagine it working with anything.
this was a biro scribble drawing produced from inspiration from a surface pattern i found online, this was another design i used a lot. it worked very nicely with other drawings and lots of colours.
this is a multi layered drawing, a tracing of an original drawing based on tone and this came in handy when it came to screen printing.
i love this close up tonal drawing and i find it so beautiful on its own i didn't use it in any of my patterns but i really do like it.
these were a combination of blind and left hand drawings which i experimented quite a lot with during development. these were new techniques i hadn't used a lot before and they can really help you relax before starting a detailed observational drawing.

more final designs
i used more reverse applique here which i am completely happy with. i love this technique and find it really effective especially with the colours and designs i have chosen to work with. again i would see this at the bottom of a skirt or garment.
AND THE EMBROIDERY IS COMPLETE! this design was very time consuming but totally worth it because it has turned out to be so beautiful. i love the intricate bead work, especially the standing beads which i am very happy with. i have learnt the new technique of french knots for this piece which i also find very effective on this design. this is one of my most beloved designs.
i find this design to be very pop art inspired with the popping colours and stripes. i enjoyed creating the screen prints too with lines of colours to create lovely stripes. they have all been sewn together to create this design.

another final design
i used the reverse applique technique with leather and cut out the edge of my screen print design to create and interesting hemline. i think this sample would look great on the bottom of a skirt. the printing process was a lengthy one trying to get the prints matched up how i wanted them but i am very happy with the finished design.

final designs
this is one of my final designs for the current surface pattern modules, and its one of my favourite designs. i used a heat transfer background and a multi coloured screen print. i love it! i love the colours i used, i find it exciting and vibrant and i enjoyed creating it.
